About Two Factor Authentication (2FA)

Two Factor Authentication (2FA) is an additional layer of security that adds a second check to your login. To use 2FA, you will need to have an additional device (most often your work or personal mobile phone). When signing into a new device the first time, you will be asked to enter a code that is sent to your secondary device, this ensures that you are the only one who can access your account.

This article covers how to properly install 2FA for your account.

In most cases, we strongly recommend that 2FA be used on only one device. Using 2FA with two or more devices can lead to problems if not activated correctly.

Activating 2FA on multiple devices

If you wish to activate 2FA on multiple devices (two phones, one phone + tablet, etc.), and you haven't activated 2FA yet, you will:

First go to your Settings > My Password and Security tab.

Next, click on the "Protect my account" button.

You will be presented with two options:

  1. Using a TOTP application to receive codes or

  2. Using your account mobile number to receive the 2FA code via SMS

To have the 2FA on multiple devices, you will choose the TOTP option.

Exact steps to activate correctly:

  1. Download and install an authenticator app on each device (recommended: Google Authenticator, download from Play Store or App Store)

    • IMPORTANT: must be the same app installed on all devices.

  2. Open Settings > My Password and Security tab.

  3. Click on the 'Protect My Account button'.

  4. Open two factor app on first device and scan the QR code.

    • Now your ST account should be listed in the app and will be generating a 6 digit code every 20 or so seconds.

  5. DO NOT enter this code now in the 'Enter the six digit code' field.

  6. Instead scan the QR code with your other device.

  7. If the same code generates on both devices at the same time - success.

  8. Now you can enter the 6 digit code in the two factor settings field to activate it.

  9. That's it :) Next time you go to log in to your ST account, first it will ask you for the standard login details "email" and "password" and then ask you to enter that 6 digit code the app from either of your devices generates.

In case you already have 2FA active for your account, kindly remove it both from Salestrekker settings and from your authenticator app before proceeding to activate on multiple devices.
